In this instalment of ‘Five minutes with’, we caught up with Graduate Account Executive Naangela Mcharo to discuss life at Byfield, the value of strong teamwork and what she has learned about her own strengths as her career develops.
How would you describe your role to someone unfamiliar with agency life?
Balance between securing media opportunities for clients positioning them in wider industry conversation, while also keeping the accounts running smoothly by keeping up with admin tasks.
What have you found most interesting about working with law firm clients so far?
How intertwined legal expertise is with the media and how it translates into real world impact for businesses and industries. It’s been fascinating to learn about the different areas lawyers specialise in and how developments in regulation, disputes or transactions can quickly become topics of interest for the media.
What does good teamwork look like in your experience at Byfield?
Tackling things together rather than individually. It often means dividing up problems so everyone can contribute, brainstorming ideas as a group, and supporting each other.
I’ve found that being able to share ideas openly, ask for help when needed, and face problems as a team makes the work more effective and more enjoyable.
What’s something you’ve learned about yourself since stepping into this role?
That I am very resilient and more organised than I thought! Which has really helped me in this role as it can get extremely busy.
Where would you like to see your career develop over the next few years?
I would really like to progress and work my way up to more senior roles with more responsibility, developing my skills and building industry relationships along the way.
Finally, what’s one thing colleagues might not know about you?
One thing colleagues might not know about me is that I have a blog called ‘beers without borders’ where I try beers from around the world, give them a review and rate them out of ten.
